The Lion and the Lamb — Helm Crag

From the summit of Helm Crag, the distinctive rock formation known as the “Lion and the Lamb” rises from the fellside, overlooking Grasmere and the surrounding valleys. The view stretches far beyond the lake, layers of hills softening into distance and morning light.

The photograph was made in the stillness at the top — a pause before leaving the height. In this setting the landscape feels less like scenery and more like witness. The rocks stand enduring and unmoving while the valley below carries signs of habitation, paths and quiet lives continuing out of sight.
