Edge of Violet (Iris germanica)
At extreme proximity, the iris is reduced to surface and light. A single boundary passes through the frame, separating gold from violet, softness from depth. Fine textures emerge across the petal, revealing a structure normally overlooked by the eye.
The photograph removes the recognisable form of the flower and instead presents a transition — a meeting point where colour gradually shifts and dissolves. Without the context of stem or bloom, the subject becomes almost abstract, inviting attention to tone, texture, and quiet variation.
This work considers perception itself: the moment we stop identifying what we see and begin simply observing it. The iris remains present, yet it is experienced as atmosphere and surface rather than object, a study in the subtle drama of small differences.
