Crossing into Blue
Created from layered exposures taken during a ferry crossing to the Isle of Mull, Crossing into Blue dissolves geography into atmosphere. Five moments are held together within a single frame, compressing time into a continuous, immersive horizon.
The receding mountain forms emerge in tonal layers — indigo, cobalt, and pale mist — suggesting both distance and memory. The sea becomes a field of depth rather than surface, its stillness carrying the quiet momentum of passage.
This work reflects on transition: the subtle psychological shift that occurs while travelling between places. Land is neither fully departed nor fully arrived; instead, it exists in gradations — echoing, overlapping, unresolved.
By layering multiple exposures, the image resists singularity. It becomes less a document of Mull and more an evocation of crossing itself — a meditation on movement, anticipation, and the quiet vastness of northern water.
